In negros occidental Over 100k voters have no biometrics data
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Of the total 1,574,787 voters in Negros Occidental, 118,784 have no biometrics data, Comelec provincial elections supervisor Jessie Suarez said.
“They must go to the Comelec office in their respective areas to complete the procedure, or face delisting,†he said, adding that the figure comprised 7.54 percent of the total number of voters in the province.
In a resolution on June 26, the Comelec en banc issued the rules and regulations for implementing Republic Act 10367, or “An Act Providing for Mandatory Biometrics Voter Registration.â€
“The registration records of voters without biometrics data, who failed to submit for validation on or before the last day of filing of applications for registration for the purpose of the May 9, 2016 National and Local Elections, shall be deactivated in the last ERB hearing to be conducted prior to said elections. Deactivated voters shall not be allowed to vote,†the resolution added.
Those voters, whose records are deactivated, may apply for reactivation upon the resumption of the system of continuing registration of voters after the May 9, 2016 elections, it added.
Suarez has directed election officers in Negros Occidental to coordinate with barangay officials for the capturing of biometrics data. They shall publish the list of voters with no biometrics per barangay, he said.
The five LGUs in the province with the most number of voters without biometrics data are: Bacolod City (11,805); Kabankalan City (10,817); Sagay City (7,552); Manapla town (7,508); and Cadiz City (7,234). (FREEMAN)
