MOA for Paglaum complex turnover okayed for signing

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The revised memorandum of agreement for the turnover of the Paglaum Sports Complex (PSC) from the Department of Education (DepEd) to the Negros Occidental provincial government was already "ironed out," and ready for signing by the two parties.

Provincial Administrator Enrique Pinongan on Monday said the slated Jan. 26 signing was deferred to Feb. 28, pending the amendment of one provision in the draft MOA.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro asked Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., to allow the Negros Occidental High School, which uses the PSC now, to construct a 24-classroom building inside the PSC.

Marañon however suggested the NOHS to construct its building in its own compound, and the Capitol would help in the initial phase of construction, said Pinongan.

With this provision already finalized and approved in principle by the two parties, the revised MOA is now with the DepEd Legal Dept. for the final draft.

Either Marañon will go to Manila or Luistro will go to Bacolod for the signing of the MOA by the end of this month, Pinongan said.
