MANILA, Philippines — Inihayag kahapon Presidential Communications Office na na­ngako ang Indonesia kay Pangulong Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na muling bubusisiin ang kaso ng convicted Filipino drug mule na si Mary Jane Veloso.

“Yes, with the decision of the Indonesian government to look into the case filed by Mary Jane Veloso in the Philippines,” pahayag ni PCO Secretary Cheloy Garafil nang tanungin kung nakakuha ng commitment si Marcos mula kay Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

”In fact, the Indonesian government is waiting for the decision of the Philippine court on the case she filed,” dagdag ni Garafil.

Bumisita si Widodo sa Manila kung saan nakipagpulong siya kay Marcos.

Anang Department of Foreign Affairs, tatalakayin ang kaso ni Veloso sa pulong ng Philippine officials at kanilang Indonesian counterparts.

Umaasa si Marcos na uusad ang kaso ni Veloso at gagawaran ito ng clemency.

Magugunita na noong 2010, hinatulang guilty si Veloso sa drug trafficking matapos mahulihan ng 2.6 kilo ng heroin sa Yogyakarta. Pinatawan siya ng death penalty.

Noong 2015, sinabi ni Widodo na binigyan ng gobyerno si Veloso ng “temporary reprieve” mula sa nakatakdang pagbitay sa kanya ayon sa ulat ng The Jakarta Post.

Naghain na ng human trafficking at hiwalay na large scale illegal recruitment case laban sa traffickers ni Veloso na sina Julius Lacanilao at Cristina Sergio sa Regional Trial Court ng Nueva Ecjia.
