Olympic medalists pinarangalan ng Senado

MANILA, Philippines — Iginawad ng Senado ang pinakamataas na parangal na maaaring ibigay, kina Tokyo Olympics medalists Hidilyn Diaz, Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam at Eumir Felix Marcial.

Pinarangalan ng mga Senador sina Diaz, Petecio, Paalam at Marcial sa pagbibigay sa kanila ng Senate Medal of Excellence.

“Ms. Diaz did not just win the gold medal, she also won against poverty,” sabi ni Senate President Vicente Sotto III sa pagkopo ni Diaz sa kauna-unahang Olympic gold medal ng Pinas. “Ms. Diaz also won over depression and fear while she was training in another country and her name was being dragged in politics.”

Isinama ni Diaz sa Senado ang kanyang Team HD na pinamumunuan nina Chinese coach Gao Kaiwen at nobyong si strength and conditioning coach Julius Naranjo.

“I’m happy that TeamHD is with me in the courtesy call at the Senate of the Philippines because they deserved all the recognition, I won’t able to compete in the Olympics and win a medal without their help,” ani Diaz.

Bukod sa Medal of Excellence ay nagbigay rin ang Senado ng cash incentives na P2.4 milyon mula sa pinagsama-samang tig-P100,000 ng mga Senador.

Tumanggap ang 30-anyos na si Diaz ng P1 milyon para sa kanyang pagkopo sa Olympic gold matapos ang 97 taon.

Pinagreynahan ng tubong Zamboanga City ang women’s 55-kilogram category sa Tokyo Olympics weightlifting competition noong Hulyo.

May tig-P500,000 naman sina Petecio at Paalam para sa kanilang silver medal sa women’s featherweight at men’s flyweight class, ayon sa pagkakasunod, at P400,000 kay Marcial sa kanyang bronze sa men’s middleweight division.
