Weightlifting hangad ang maraming atleta sa Olympics

MANILA, Philippines — Mas maraming at­leta ay mas malaki ang tsansang makamit ang mailap na kauna-una­hang gold medal sa Olympic Games.

Umaasa si Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) president Monico Puentevella na na magkakaroon si­la ng karagdagang atleta para sa pagsabak sa 2020 Olympics na idaraos sa Tokyo, Japan.

“We want to become the sports association with the largest number of Olympic delegates,” wika ni Puentevella.

Sina Olympians Hidilyn Diaz at Nestor Colonia ang inaasahang babandera sa kampanya ng bansa sa 2020 Tokyo Game.

Para maka-qualify sa 2020 Tokyo Games ay kailangang may magandang performance ang isang weightlifter sa anim na qualifying tournaments.

Sina Diaz, Colonia at iba pang local bets ay nakalahok na sa tatlong qualifying.

Nakatakda rin silang sumabak sa 30th SEA Games, China World Championships, Roma World Championships at sa Asian Championships.

Kumpiyansa rin si Puentevella na makaka­kuha ng tiket sa nasabing quadrennial event ang 16-anyos na si Vanessa Sarno, naguwi ng dalawang gold medals sa Asian Junior and Youth Cham­pionships sa Pyongyang.

Maliban kay Sarno, aa­sahan din ng SWP na makakalaro sa 2020 Olympics sina Eileen Ann Ando, Kristel Macrohon at Mar­garet Colo­nia.

“We are preparing them early and want them to qualify in the Tok­yo Olympics so that by 2024, they already have the experience to become Olympic medalists,” sabi ni Puentevella.
