UP, FEU volleybelles nakaiwas sa upset

BIÑAN CITY, Philippines — Nakaiwas ang University of the Philippines (UP) at Far Eastern University (FEU) sa upset at dumiretso sa kanilang ikalawang sunod na panalo sa Philippine Superliga Collegiate Grand Slam Saturday sa Alonte Sports Center dito.

Bumawi ang Lady Maroons sa second-set meltdown para sa 25-6, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22 pa-nalo kontra sa Colegio San Agustin (CSA)-Binan habang bumangon ang Lady Tamaraws  sa pagkatalo sa first set para sa 25-21, 25-16, 25-11 tagumpay kontra sa De La Salle University-Dasmarinas.

Nagningning si rookie Nicole Magsarile sa kanyang 15 points mula sa 12 attacks at tatlong aces habang ang fourth year na si Justin Dorog ay nagtala ng 14 hits para sa UP na kumopo ng kanilang ikalawang panalo sa prestihiyosong collegiate tournament na ito na  itinataguyod ng Isuzu, Sogo, Senoh, Asics, Mikasa, Mueller, UCPB Gen at Bizooku katulong ang ESPN5, AksyonTV at Hyper HD  bilang broadcast partners.

Nag-ambag din si Aie Gannaban at Marist Layug ng 11 at 10 hits, ayon sa pagkakasunod habang nagtala si skipper Tits Carlos ng nine points tampok ang 10 digs para sa Lady Maroons.

“They (CSA) played good volleyball,” ani UP coach Godfrey Okumu  matapos ang exciting na laban na nagsilbing appetizer para sa University Athletic Association of the Philippines women’s volleyball tourney sa kaagahan ng susunod na taon.  “They wanted to win more than us. We thought the game was going to be easy. But, it’s good for our player to learn to take pressure from every game they play.”
