World tennis players lalahok sa ATP Challenge

MANILA, Philippines – Isang dating World No. 8 player at da-lawang sumisikat na netters mula sa US at India ang hahataw sa $75,000 ATP Challenge na nakatakda sa Jan. 18-24 sa Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Kinumpirma na ni Russian Mikhail Youzhny, kasalukuyang No. 33 sa mundo at umabot sa No. 8 pitong taon na ang nakakalipas, ang paglahok sa naturang pinakamalaking event na pamamahalaan ng bansa matapos ang International Tennis Premier League.

Maglalaro naman si American Frances Taifoe, sinasabing magiging susunod na US star, bilang isa sa mga wild card entries at si Indian ace Somdev Devvarman, No. 177 sa mundo ay nagmula sa paghahari sa nakaraang Challenger event sa Illinois.

Kakampanya rin sa event sina Dutch Sijslong Igor, nagkampeon sa Challenger sa Brescia, Italy; No. 121 Radu Albot ng Moldova; No. 106 Vanni Luca ng Italy; at No.110 Lukas Lacko ng Slovakia.

“This one of the biggest, if not the biggest, we’re hosting. This is next-level tournament and the players coming over are regular campaigners in the ATP tour,” sabi ni Philta vice president at Davis Cup administrator Randy Villanueva.

Babanderahan naman nina Filipino net-ters Francis Casey Alcantara, Jeson Patrombon at Alberto Lim, Jr, ang laban ng bansa matapos makakuha ng wild card slots.

Nakahugot sina Fil-Am Ruben Gonzales, Patrick John Tierro at Fil-American Mico Santiago ng wild card entries para makalaro sa qualifying round na magsisimula bukas.
