Ateneo ‘di papaapekto sa problema kay Ikeh

MANILA, Philippines – Pipilitin ng Ateneo Blue Eagles na pagtuunan kung ano ang kanilang dapat gawin matapos ang isa na namang off-court distraction na nagpayanig sa koponan na kinasasangkutan ni foreign player Chibueze Ikeh.

Ilang oras matapos kunin ng Blue Eagles ang isang Final Four seat sa UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball mula sa 74-65 panalo laban sa University of the Philippines noong Miyerkyules ng gabi, inaresto si Ikeh ng Quezon City Police District personnel dahil sa kasong isinampa ng kanyang nobya.

Kinasuhan si Ikeh ng paglabag sa Republic Act 9262 o ang tinatawag na Violence Against Women and Children Act.

“This is just a temporary distraction for the team,” sabi ni AdMU coach Bo Perasol kahapon. “We intend to use this adversity as another rallying point in our campaign this season.”

Nauna nang nasangkot si John Apacible sa kontrobersya dahil sa pagwawala nito sa kalsada ng lasing.

Humingi ng paumanhin si Apacible at sinuspinde ng Ateneo team para sa regular season.

“Kung ang basis ay ‘yung nangyari kay John before, wala naman naging adverse effect at na-ging rallying point pa nga,” sabi ni Perasol. “I’m still positive and I feel we’re strong enough to hurdle this latest adversity.”

Natulog si Ikeh sa QCPD criminal investigation and detection unit’s detention facility.

Pinakawalan si Ikeh kahapon matapos magpiyansa at nakahandang maglaro sa banggaan ng Ateneo at La Salle sa Linggo.

“Ikeh is in the campus already,” wika ni Perasol. “He will definitely play for us this Sunday.”
