MANILA, Philippines — Hinimok kahapon ni Senate Committee on Sports chairman Sen. Bong Go ang kanyang mga kasamahan sa Senado na aprubahan ang proposed budget ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at Games and Amusements Board (GAB) para sa 2022.
Sa pagdinig kahapon ng Senate Committee on Finance ay sinabi ni Go na kailangang maituloy ang matagumpay na kampanya ng bansa sa nakaraang Tokyo Olympics para sa susunod na taon.
“I believe that investing in sports will not only allow our country to develop more world-class athletes who can bring pride, honor and medals to our country, but will also help us in keeping our youth away from illegal drugs and other harmful vices,” wika ni Go.
Ang PSC ay humihingi ng pondong P1,559,402 bilyon para sa susunod na taon na tatampukan ng paggastos sa anim na major international competitions.
Ang mga ito ay ang Southeast Asian Games sa Hanoi, Vietnam, Winter Olympics sa Beijing, 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) sa Thailand, The World Games (TWG) sa Birmingham, Alabama, 19th Asian Games sa Hangzhou, China at Fifth Asian Youth Games (AYG) sa Shantou, China.
Solidong suporta ang ibinigay ng PSC sa 19 national athletes na sumabak sa nakaraang Tokyo Olympics noong Hulyo na tinampukan ng pagbuhat ni weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz sa kauna-unahang gold medal ng Pinas.
Naglatag naman ang GAB ni chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra ng proposed budget na P146,487,000 milyon para sa 2022.
“With the current crop of sports minded and very supportive Senators we have, I am confident that Philippine sports will go along way,” ani Mitra. “We will forever be grateful to them.”
