Umani ng parangal ang Hollywood indie film na ginawa ni Lea Salonga kasama sina Eva Noblezada at Princess Punzalan na Yellow Rose sa 39th annual Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF39) Audience Awards.

The HIFF39 Audience Awards, presented by Hawaii News and announced last November 20, named the multi-award-winning indie film by writer-director Diane Paragas as one of the three winners of the audience votes.

Natanggap ng Yellow Rose ang Best Narrative Feature, para sa naging kuwento nito about an undocumented 17-year old Filipino girl named Rose na nangarap na lisanin ang kinalakhan niyang town sa Texas to pursue country music, pero may panganib na ma-deport siya pabalik ng Pilipinas noong mahuli ang kanyang ina ng ICE agents.

The film is described by Anderson Le on the HIFF39 site as “Inspired by the music of country musicians like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Willie Nelson, the original composition accompanied by Noblezada’s captivating voice becomes the soundtrack of Rose’s wanderings akin to country westerns or ‘musicals’.”

Yellow Rose was nominated for the HIFF39 Kau Ka Hoku Hoku Filmmaker Award.

The film has three Best Feature awards, one each from the Toronto Reel Asian film festival, the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, and from the Vancouver Asian Film Festival.

Heto ang post niya via IG:

“I’m so honored to design the official parade uniform of Team Philippines for the 30th Southeast Asian Games. Reinventing the design of our Barong Tagalog made it more nationalistic and festive by incorporating the vibrant colors and meaningful symbols of the Philippine national flag. I made use of Philippine fibers and materials, accented with custom art deco embroidery.
