UST handa sa estratehiya ng UP sa ‘do-or-die’ game

MANILA, Philippines — Magsasabong sa ‘do-or-die’ game ang No. 2 seed University of the Philippines at University of Santo To­mas sa ikalawa nilang pagtatagpo sa stepladder se­mifinals sa Season 82 UAAP men’s basketball tournament sa MOA Arena sa Pasay City.

Nakatakda ang knockout game ng Fighting Maroons at Growling Tigers ngayong alas 4 ng hapon kung saan ang magwawagi ay lalarga sa best-of-three championship series kasagupa ang nagdedepensang Ate­neo Blue Eagles.

Nasungkit ng UST ang 89-69 panalo laban sa UP at tatangkain naman nila itong doblehin para makum­pleto ang ‘sweep’ patungo sa UAAP Finals matapos ang apat na taon.

Hindi pa nakakatakim ng panalo ang Fighting Maroons laban sa Growling Tigers simula noong elimination round.

Inaasahan ni UST coach Aldin Ayo na magkakaroon ng mga adjusments ang UP ni mentor Bo Perasol sa kanilang rubber match game.

“They’re going to adjust. I think they’re going to be physical. Sa akin, kapag mga do-or-die game nangyayari ‘yun eh -- doing whatever it takes,” wika ni Ayo. “But knowing them, wala namang maruming mag­­laro doon eh. Siguro kung anuman ‘yung physicality, I think it will be part of basketball pa rin. So it will be tough for us because they’re going to adjust. Now magdedepende lang kung paano mag-counter.”

Si UAAP MVP Soulemane Chabi Yo ang muling aa­sahan ng Growling Tigers katuwang sina Rookie of the Year Mark Nonoy, Rhenz Abando, Sherwin Concepcion, Enzo Subido at Zach Huang.

Isa sa malaking factor ang ‘run-and-gun’ play ng Es­paña-based cagers na kailangang lutasin ng mga Fi­­gh­ting Maroons kung paano ito mapipigilan upang ma­kaabante sila sa UAAP Finals.

“It’s something we need to address. Tatlong beses na kaming tinatalo ng UST,” sabi ni Perasol. “I mean we have to learn from that, conditioning-wise,  what we can do in the next two days. So ‘yun ang importante, we need to find a way how we can address that.” sabi ni Perasol.
