MANILA, Philippines – Ang lahat ay nagtatapos sa pagkakaisa sa Philippine Olympic Committee matapos magkasundo na magsagawa ng “Special Election” para sa halos lahat ng posisyon sa ginanap na Extraordinary General Assembly kahapon sa GSIS Gymnasium sa Pasay City.
Sinabi ni POC chairman Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino na napagkasunduan ng lahat na gagawin ang nasabing election sa Hulyo 5 sa Golden Bay Seafoods sa Macapagal Blvd. sa Pasay City.
“We declared invalid what they called as Extraordinary General Assembly because according to our By-Laws, there should be at least 10-day notice and the secretary-general (Patrick Gregorio) is the one to suppose call the GA,” pahayag ni Tolentino.
Ito ay nangyari, matapos makumbinsi ni Tolentino na boluntar-yong magbitiw na lamang lahat ang mga opisyales para mabakante ang kanilang posisyon at magkaroon ng “fresh mandate.”
Tatlong posisyon na lamang ang natitira at iyon ay sa board member na sina Prospero Pichay ng chess at Robert Mananquil ng billiards at second vice president Antonio De Lara Tamayo Jr. ng soft tennis dahil hindi sila dumalo sa pagtitipon, ngunit kukumbinsihin pa rin ang tatlo na boluntaryong magbitiw, ayon kay Aranas.
“We really need fresh faces, new ideas in the POC. This would really change the image of the Olympic body. So we really have to take this drastic measure,” sabi ni Joey Romasanta, ang dating first vice-president na na-appoint bilang acting POC president.
Napagkasunduan din ng lahat na si dating IOC representative to the Philippines Frank Elizalde pa rin ang mamumuno sa commission on election.
