Alapag mananatili sa SMB-Alab Pilipinas

MANILA, Philippines — Magbabalik si Jimmy Alapag bilang head coach ng bagong ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) champion na San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas sa susunod na season.

Ito ang sinabi kahapon ni Alab team manager Charlie Dy sa estado ni Alapag, iginiya ang koponan sa kampeonato laban sa Mono Vampire Thailand.

“Yes, he’ll still coach the team next season,” wika ni Dy kay Alapag na naging susi sa title run ng Alab, ang ikatlong Philippine team na naghari sa ABL.

“Jimmy is inspirational. He’s a father, brother, friend and mentor to the players,” dagdag ni Dy sa dating team captain ng Gilas Pilipinas.

Matapos ang malamyang pani-mula at pagpapalit ng mga imports bukod pa sa pagbitaw ng dating backer na Tanduay sa unang apat na laro ng season ay naging desperado si Alapag na makagawa ng himala.

Naging susi ang kanyang dating Gilas Pilipinas teammate na si LA Tenorio ng Barangay Ginebra sa pagkonekta sa Alab kay San Miguel Corp. sports director Alfrancis Chua na nagresulta sa pagiging backer ng San Miguel bilang team sponsor.

“Jimmy was really the heart and soul of the team. He was the biggest reason of the team’s success,” sabi ni Dy.

Bagama’t plantsado na ang pagbabalik ni Alapag sa Alab ay wala pang komento si Dy tungkol kina imports Renaldo Balkman at Justin Brownlee at reigning back-to-back local MVP Bobby Ray Parks.

Inaasahang maglalarong muli sina Balkman at Brownlee sa PBA, samantalang posible namang sumali si Parks sa darating na 2018 PBA Draft.

“We’ll discuss it this coming week. Nothing is certain at present,” pagtatapos ni Dy.
