3 taekwondo events idaraos sa Linggo

MANILA, Philippines – Maglalaban-laban ang halos 800 taekwondo practitioners sa tatlong magkakaibang events sa 2016 SMART/MVP Sports Foundation, PLDT Home Ultera National CPJ (Carlos Palanca Jr.) at Kukkiwon Cup championships sa Linggo sa Cuneta Astrodome.

Kasama sa mga makikipag-agawan ng puwesto sa national team ay sina Francis Aaron Agojo, Samuel Thomas Morrison Harper, Ronna Ilao, Pauline Lopez at Benjamin Keith Sembrano na lalahok sa kyorugi (free sparring) competition bukod pa sa poomsae at kyukpa.

Tampok sa kyorugi ang Senior (18-gulang pataas), Junior (15-17-gulang at Cadet (12-14 gulang) na fighters, habang ang mga maglalaban-laban sa  poomsae ay hahatiin sa tatlong divisions – individual, team at pair  na may  13 categories na Cadet (12-14 years old), Junior (15-17), 1st Senior 1-A (18-24), Senior 1-B (25-30), Senior 2 (31-40), Master (41 and above), Cadet Pair, Junior Pair, Senior Pair, Cadet team, Junior team, 1st team at 2nd team.

Ang Kyukpa ay may dalawang events – hand breaking at foot breaking.

Ang hand breaking ay may techniques – ang fist breaking kung saan kailangang mabasag ang target mula sa isang straight down punch at knife hand breaking habang ang foot breaking ay may tatlong klase ng techniques: ang high jumping front kick breaking, flying side kick breaking over obstacles at acrobatic breaking.

Ayon kay organizing committee chairman Grandmaster Sung Chon Hong, sasabak ang mga Philippine team members sa Asian qualifying tournament para sa Rio Olympics 2016, sa Asian Taekwondo Championships at sa Asian Poomsae Championships sa April at sa 2016 World Poomsae Championships sa Lima, Peru.

Ang Philippine Sports Commission, Milo at Meralco ang sponsor ng kompetisyon sa Linggo na sisimulan sa alas-9:00 ng umaga.
