MANILA, Philippines - Nanawagan si opposition Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero sa mga opisyal ng Philippine Sports Commission na gumawa na ng hakbang upang maresolba ang mga gulong namamagitan sa kanila ng Philippine Olympic Committee upang maisalba ang anumang tsansa ng Pambansang atleta sa pagwawagi ng medalya sa Southeast Asian Games sa Laos sa Disyembre.
“Let us not wait for the Senate to step in to resolve the various issues that have affected our preparations for this biennial event,” pahayag ng 39-year old lawmaker.
“Our sports officials know what ails Philippine sports. They know what is best for our athletes. If they want to, they can settle these issues here and now.”
Sinabi rin ni Escudero na habang nagsampa na siya ng resolusyon na hihiling sa Senado na mag-obserba sa gulong namamagitan sa dalawang pangunahing sports body sa bansa at ilang National Sports Association, hindi pa oras para magsagawa ng imbestigasyon ngayon.
Ang resolusyon ay mag-aatas sa Senate Committee on Games, Amusement and Sports na tingnan ang posibleng pag-amiyenda sa Republic Act 6847, ang batas na lumikha sa PSC noong 1990.
“Holding an investigation now will only affect the training and morale of our athletes. It will also distract our sports officials from doing whatever they can to get us a decent finish in the Laos Games,” ani Escudero.
“I urge the PSC to reach out to the POC for the sake of our athletes so they will compete with only one thing in their minds – to bring honor to our country,” aniya pa.
Sinabi rin ni Escudero na matutuloy ang imbestigasyon pagkatapos ng December competition anuman ang maging resulta ng performance ng Philippine team.
“Sa sports, walang administrasyon at walang oposisyon. Dito, pwedeng sama-sama kami na magtulong-tulong para maisaayos ang mga problemang kinakaharap ng liderato ng sports at mga atleta,” aniya.
