MANILA, Philippines - Three students from Dagupan City, Pasig City and Negros Oriental will represent the Philippines in the 6th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Quiz to be held in Vietnam in August.

Reysanelle Claire Balolong, 15, a third year high school student of St. Albert the Great School (SAGS) in Dagupan City, bested 16 other students in the ASEAN Quiz national competition held recently at the PTV 4 studios in Quezon City.

She received a medal and cash prize of P20,000, while Kyle Vincent Singson of Pasig City (National Capital Region) took second place and got a medal and P15,000. John Vincent Derla from Negros Oriental (Central Visayas Region) placed third with a medal and P10,000.

A project of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information, the ASEAN Quiz is aimed at fostering the spirit of healthy competition and friendship among ASEAN youth.

Over the years, the Philippines has consistently won in the ASEAN Quiz competitions held in different ASEAN countries.

In 2002, when the competition was launched in Thailand, the Philippines won first and second places in the individual delegates category.

In 2004, the Philippines topped the individual delegates competition held in Brunei Darussalam, while in 2006, it won second place in the individual delegates competition held in Malaysia.

The Philippines won first place again in the country competition in 2009 and in 2012 hosted by Cambodia.
