Globe partners with barangays vs crime

-

MANILA, Philippines - Security and peace enforcers in over 200 barangays across the country were provided with the tools needed to perform their duties via the “Sagot Ka Ni Kap!” (SKK) program of Globe Telecom.

Since its launch in 2008, the SKK program has enabled residents to be more engaged and vigilant in maintaining peace and order in their community as evidenced by continuous stream of text messages, with as many as 15 to 20 texts per day, reporting various disturbances and complaints. Globe has already implemented the SKK program in areas such as Compostela Valley, Negros Occidental, Nueva Ecija, and Metro Manila.

“The barangay, being the most basic and closest semblance of government and law enforcers in a community, needs to be able to efficiently respond to emergencies or complaints. We at Globe would like to partner with local communities, providing them with the tools to quickly respond to any threat or emergency,” said Jeffrey Tarayao, corporate social responsibility head of Globe Telecom, “In the following years, we hope that the ‘Sagot Ka Ni Kap!’ program will be rolled out in more barangays nationwide.”

The SKK program is an initiative of the company’s Globe Bridging Communities (Globe BridgeCom) to help empower communities in preventing crime in their areas. These include communication equipment such as mobile phones and hand-held radios, and law enforcement tools such as uniform shirts, raincoats, boots, heavy-duty flashlights, tear gas, and handcuffs for barangay tanods and local community police auxiliary units.

The SKK package also includes a tarpaulin signage with details of the dedicated barangay-based mobile hotline where community members are encouraged to file incident reports via text or call. Globe also provides SKK communities with capacity-building workshops designed to inspire and enable barangay officials and tanods to be proactive in community development efforts. The workshop includes modules on community leadership, conflict resolution, and crisis management.

Aside from the security and communication equipment, Globe, in partnership with AON and Chartis Insurance Philippines, also provides barangay tanod beneficiaries with a one-year comprehensive personal accident insurance package.
