Visual artist Kevin Balboa presented his latest art exhibition at The Metro Gallery in San Juan City entitled “Arrange - Imagine - Rearrange - Reimagine.” The 10 acrylic-on-canvas artworks expressed beauty found in certain warped situations through the artist’s playful presentations of mismatched objects.

Kevin is a contemporary visual artist who earned his degree in Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas. He is known for his lowbrow / pop surrealist art style, which shows his playfulness and self-expression. He has joined several local competitions and participated in various group shows since he started painting professionally in 2009.

“Arrange - Imagine - Rearrange - Reimagine” is his third solo at Metro Gallery. His illustrations of flowers and plants in this show represent refinement and sophistication, which are casually organized in contrast with other deformed floral shapes.

Art writer Christine Laberinto summed it up perfectly when she said his works “juxtaposed the elegant and obnoxious, the fine and unpleasant.”

I actually met the young artist back in 2013 at the old address of Metro Gallery before they moved to their current location. I found his detailed surreal sketches quite interesting and purchased a couple of them.  People loved his work but he was still experimenting and searching for his style then. Kevin describes his style as surreal in concept but his painting technique or process is realism. This current style of his is a hit, as his show was very well received by the art community. All 10 of his works were sold out and a very long list of art collectors have lined up for his list of commissioned works. I’m glad to see this talented young artist is finally getting recognition for his beautiful works.

I have seen his development as an artist and I cannot wait to see what this young man has in store for his future exhibits! Congratulations on a beautiful show, Kevin!
