Dinner for a queen

Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres was recently back in the Philippines to be a judge in the 65th Miss Universe competition. And Dr. Vicki Belo, who got Dayanara as the latest Belo endorser, threw an intimate dinner for the beauty queen at Manila House in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Chef Gilbert Pangilinan prepared a wonderful dinner of salad, foie gras chawanmushi and a choice of steak or soy-miso gindara.

After the dinner, Vicki welcomed Dayanara into the Belo family and gifted her with a bouquet and a gigantic Louis Vuitton box. Guests had time to mingle with the very friendly former Miss Universe.

Dayanara joins a roster of stars in endorsing Belo. Welcome to the Belo family, Dayanara!

Tim’s universe

The stars of the universe aligned recently when Tim Yap celebrated his 40th birthday at the members-only club Manila House in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Tim’s friends and family came to the party — hosted by Dr. Vicki Belo — wearing their best national costume of choice. As guests entered the venue, they were handed sashes with witty titles like “Miss Giving,” “Miss Conception” and “Miss Demeanor.”

Tim’s guests took effort dressing up for the night. It was a feast for the eyes. Vicki came in her Pocahontas-inspired costume, while Cristalle Pitt wore a tuk-tuk costume inspired by what Miss Thailand  wore in Miss Universe 2015.

Belo endorser Ruffa Gutierrez came in an elaborate Brazilian costume complete with headdress and light-flashing feathers that literally stopped traffic during the party.

The winners in the best in costume competition were Iza Calzado, who came in an Imelda Marcos-inspired Filipiniana and won a Rimowa luggage; Lovi Poe and beau Chris Johnson won the best pair in costume; and Isabelle Daza, who stole the crown literally and figuratively when she came wearing her mother’s Miss Universe crown and looking like Gloria Diaz complete with cape and makeup style of the ‘60s. She was a sight to behold that night as Isabelle was an uncanny and beautiful resemblance of her mom when the latter won the first Miss Universe crown for the Philippines in 1969.

But the birthday boy was not to be outdone. After all, this was his 40th birthday party! Tim went down on one knee and proposed to longtime beau Javi Martinez. Javi said “yes” to Tim.

Happy birthday, Tim. And congratulations to you and Javi! *
