A glam night for the Stars of Reliance

PEOPLE - Joanne Rae M. Ramirez - The Philippine Star

After days of torrential rains, the skies cleared up in Metro Manila and the stars descended upon the Maynila Ballroom of the Manila Hotel for a special evening.

Reliance Surety and Insurance Company celebrated its 60th anniversary at the Maynila Ballroom of the Manila Hotel last Aug. 18 in a night of pageantry that showed the vibrant state of insurance in the country.

Remaining true to its promise of “assuring safer tomorrows,” Reliance affirmed to its people and clients that the company’s tomorrow is safe, stable and ever profitable.

The event was titled Stars of Reliance and had a Hollywood theme. The entertainer for the night was crooner Richard Poon.

Insurance Commissioner Emmanuel Dooc gave a stirring message in his keynote speech that discussed Filipino values essential in the insurance business. And to support the projects of the Insurance Commission, including helping the victims of the recent flooding, Reliance pledged a P100,000-donation for the cause.

Reliance president Andrew Dee Co stressed on the importance of insurance in the country’s economy and how each Reliance employee is part of this service to the country.

“The most important thing here is to understand the essence of insurance. The banks provide liquidity. But after the liquidity, where’s the support, where’s the spine of the economy when the pressure comes? It’s the insurance that comes in so we have to be strong and stable,” he said.

Mary Dee Co, vice chairperson and former president of Reliance, gave a tribute to Co Tuan, the company’s founder, who left a legacy of compassion and integrity.

“Because of his humble beginning, and being away from the comforts of a family at an early age, he held a special understanding and tenderness for the poor and lowly. His magnetic personality fostered the germination of a culture in the Reliance community – that of industry and honesty, devotion and dedication,” narrated Mrs. Co.

Crystal star trophies and plaques were awarded to outstanding employees and agents. Some of the awardees have worked in the company for 50 years. It was a clear proof of how well Reliance treats not only its clients but its employees as well.

“The secret of our success is our people. Without its people, Reliance would not have lasted this long,” said Andrew Co.
