Two DJs on their Seventh High

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

Two of the hottest international DJs recently made an appearance at the Seventh High and brought the house down. Partygoers couldn’t contain their excitement as DJ Ross One and DJ Craze spun the latest in club music at the bar’s signature Indulgence Saturdays.

One of the most sought-after DJs in the US and worldwide, DJ Ross is based in Brooklyn and Miami. He is regularly seen at top clubs such as New York’s Prive, Mansion and The Setai, Manhattan’s popular Butter and Miami’s Mokai and Set. DJ Ross is part of renowned music production Skam Artist, which also brought Discotech, a Miami-based remixing team, for Seventh High’s successful public launch in March.

DJ Craze is known to practice “turntablism” (non-CD digital mixers for those not old enough to remember turntables). He is the Nicaraguan-American DJ who became known as the only solo DJ in history to have claimed the DMC World DJ Championships trophy for three consecutive years. Recognized as Time magazine’s Best DJ in 2001, he has spun for musicians like Kanye West, hot joints like Miami’s Club Eve and events like the Midi Fight Club. DJ Craze was joined by the Philippines’ only female DJ tandem, DJ Jena and DJ Teaze.

Expect more from Seventh High as it approaches its first anniversary this November!

Run for a cause

It was an adventure-packed affair when the Rexona Adventure 2011 was successfully staged at the SM Mall of Asia grounds. The affair showcased two events: the Rexona Run and the Rexona Adventure Hub. This was the fourth leg of the RunRio Series wherein nearly 10,000 runners took part in the 21K, 10K, 5K and 3K races for both men and women.

Kenyans Benjamin Kipkasi, James Tallam and Douglas Muiti swept the 21K men’s division while Nhea Ann Barcena, Luisa Raterta and Peris Poywo ruled the 21K women’s category. Race finishers Maria Cristina Caballa, Kasper Luna and Jose Ezra Rostrata won an all-expense paid trip to the Great Wall of China.

Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up and STAR columnist Venus Raj ran in the 3K division while Tessa Prieto-Valdes also participated by finishing the 21K race category.

There were other activities as well such as the zorb maze, free fall, wall climbing, zip line and reverse bungee. Participants also enjoyed the photo booth and fun games that had Unilever products for prizes. An adventure package for four in Mt. Province, Bohol or Cagayan de Oro was also raffled off.

Rexona reinforces the advocacy of promoting sports development among the youth by donating proceeds from the event to the Field of Dreams in Smokey Mountain. A project of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Manila and Gawad Kalinga, it gives schoolchildren the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy sports. Among those who will benefit are eight schools and more than 5,000 families in the Smokey Mountain community.
