A glowing Golden Tee

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton -

A night filled with fun, surprises and a variety of extraordinary prizes recently took place at the Manila Golf and Country Club (MGCC) for the 40th Annual Golden Tee celebration. Hosted by your columnist, together with the alluring Champagne Morales, the affair was brimming with high spirits as tournament committee chairman Raoul Romulo opened the program by recognizing the different groups, such as the ladies branch and the tournament committee members that made this year’s annual event possible. This year’s event is also considered by many as the biggest yet in terms of prizes including five cars, one each from Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus and Mini Cooper. Business Class tickets to various parts of Europe, giveaways and other perks were also given to the lucky participants. Loving care and resources were poured into the great course that we know as Manila Golf. In fact, many players commented that the fairways remind them of Augusta Georgia where the Masters Tournament is held annually. Impeccable fairways and manicured greens; special credit should be given to MGCC Board senior adviser Macario Te and his wonderfully efficient team who made the whole 40th Golden Tee the most successful event in the history of the Manila Golf Club, from conception to the awards ceremonies. Bravo, Macario and his great team as well as the present and past members of the board of directors for giving us only the best of the best!

The opening of the program was followed by a message from MGCC president Rep. Martin Romualdez who received the 2008 Renovation of the Year Award (International Category) for MGCC from Golf Inc. magazine. The attendees of the awards night were left in awe as a stunning fireworks display was shown. It preceded the much awaited tournament awards, which were handed out first to the club champions. Among the awardees were Sandy Prieto Romualdez, O.V. Espiritu, Richie Garcia, John Paul Reyes and Alex Prieto. Golden Tee winners for this year were Myphone’s Jason Lim (second runner-up), American Eyecenter’s Dr. Cesar Espiritu (first runner-up) and Food Industries Inc.’s Raymond Co (champion). Emerging as the overall team champions were Ricardo Nicanor Jacinto and Antonio Unson. Overwhelming prizes were raffled off to cap off the awards night.

Congratulations and see you next year!

The luxury hotel of choice in Cebu

The five-star Marco Polo Plaza Cebu has always lived up to its reputation of bringing only the best to its guests. Led by gracious GM Hans Hauri, it recently became the preferred hotel of distinguished personalities from the diplomatic circle including Israeli Ambassador Zvi Aviner Vapni, People’s Republic of China Consul General He Shi Jing, Liberal Party senatorial bet Franklin Drilon and Qin Yuan-He. It also provided home away from home for the visiting artists of the Arts Council of Cebu — the Israeli Jazz singers Adi Cohen, Tamir Hitman and Paula Valstein.

Congratulations!

Johnny says, ‘Check this out’

The rave over designer bags has taken a lot of people by storm. I have seen women flaunting them in parties and other social gatherings. To my surprise, your columnist and gorgeous ladies Cindy Yang, Rufina Lim and Salome Uy were given the chance to eat cakes in the form of an elegant designer bag, which I hesitated to slice since each cake variant looked so elegant and expensive. Yes, you read that right. Now, even cakes have the designer bag look, such as that of some famous French labels. The demand for the designer bag cake grows rapidly as these edible and literally sweet totes and purses continue to amaze bag aficionados.
