Global Academy wins 3 gold awards at 2nd Culinary Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Continuing on its winning streak, Global Academy was the only culinary school to bag three gold medals in the 2nd Philippine Culinary Cup held Aug. 3-6 at the SMX Convention Center. This is the third consecutive triumph for The Global Academy Team, which won two gold medals in last year’s Culinary Cup and dominated the Hong Kong International Culinary Classic last May by walking off with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals. In this year’s Culinary Cup, a panel of world-renowned chefs from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and Switzerland awarded Global Academy student Paul Piza the lone Gold Medal in the Australian Lamb category, while also giving Cheenee de Jesus and Jacqueline Monteverde the lone Gold Medal Award in the Young Chef’s Team Challenge. Also bagging gold was Dana Cristelle Cristobal in the Pork Category. In addition, Rolly Cupin received silver in the U.S. Beef as Mark Benjamin Ajero, Adrian Valdez III and Joey Valladolid got the bronze medal in the Filipino Cuisine Team Challenge category. Said Chef Mike Yap of the academy’s non-stop wins, “This is a testament to the school’s commitment to excellence. The competition was a total team effort ... but I think what it highlights the most is the chef instructor-student partnership of Global. Our students competed alongside professionals from around the region and came up with noteworthy performances, to say the least.” Enrollment is ongoing for September to November intakes.
