Museo, Vibal mark Children's Month with 'Asul na Kariton'

MANILA, Philippines – In celebration of October as Children’s Month, Museo Pambata (MP), in cooperation with Vibal Publishing House, hosted “Tayo Nang Mangarap at Magbahaginan sa Asul na Kariton,” an exhibit-workshop featuring Vibal’s Ang Asul na Kariton from Oct. 23 to 30.

Written by Genaro Gojo Cruz and illustrated by Alma Quinto, Ang Asul na Kariton is a story about two boys and a blue push cart which serves as their source of income, as well as provides them with shelter and happiness.

The first part of the project consisted of an exhibit featuring the textile illustrations of Alma Quinto. The exhibit ran from Oct. 23 to 30 at the Changing Exhibits gallery of Museo Pambata.

Creative workshops were also held, spearheaded by the project curator, Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) Fredyl Hernandez. Participants came from MP’s Children’s Advocacy Program, Girl Scouts of the Philippines, ERDA Foundation, Sophia School-Bulacan, and ChildFund Philippines.

In the workshop, kids learned how to write their own stories, as well as have fun with their fellow participants in games that tested their teamwork and cooperation. Their creative outputs were also posted as part of the exhibit.

Both the exhibit and the workshop aimed to impart the values presented by the story, which are hope and perseverance despite the circumstances, as well as unity amongst individuals, regardless of different backgrounds.
