Why should Filipinos study in Europe? EHEF gives 3 reasons

Joyce Jimenez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - More educational opportunities open for Filipino students as the European Union held on Saturday the European Higher Education Fair (EHEF).

Since 2012, the event has been attended by 22 higher education institutions in Europe. The number increased by 12 in 2013 with a total of 34 higher education institutions. This year, 2014, with Belgium and Denmark joining EHEF, a total of 44 higher education institutions joined the fair.

European Union Ambassador Guy Ledoux gave three reasons why Filipino students should fly to Europe and pursue an education there.

“First of all is excellence,” Ledoux said. “European universities have higher education, I don't need to go into details, but your national hero Jose Rizal went to study in some European universities.

“The second reason I would mention is diversity. We have already 44 institutions here today, all in all we have 28 member states. So we have many other options there available. The last justification, I would say, is it's more fun in the Philippines...in Europe also! It's also more fun in Europe.”

He also pointed out three other factors, one of which is the Erasmus Mundus scholarship, which he said is “very interesting and very useful for Filipino students.” This is an addition to the other scholarships that their member states are offering to Filipino students.

Ledoux also mentioned the alumni association of the Filipino students who study in Europe. Most of the alumni, he said, “help each other to find job and start businesses here in the Philippines.”

Different institutions here in the Philippines are also available to help Filipino students learn the language of the European country they would like to visit.
