Ronda Mayor Lucio C. Ortiz

CEBUPEDIA - Clarence Paul Oaminal - The Freeman

Lucio C. Ortiz did not just serve the people of Ronda, Cebu, he served Cebu Province and helped in the preservation of its lots. It was Ortiz who represented the Cebu Mayors League in the legal battle for the retention of the hundreds of the provincial lots donated to Cebu City. It was lawyer Pablo P. Garcia who was asked by then Governor Rene D. Espina to question the donation of the Cebu Province to the City of Cebu.

Ortiz was mayor of Ronda, Cebu, from 1955 to 1971. In 1963, these were his fellow public servants; Vice Mayor Toribio Chiong, municipal secretary Joaquin V. Gimena, secretary Florentino Joyohoy, chief of police Dionisio Salina, and health officer Dr. Castor Ricana.

His councilors were Lorenzo Villalon, Edilberto O. Estomo, Necitas B. Andan, Ceferino Gaquing, Visitacion Lirasan and Alfonso J. Lim. The municipal judge was Numeriano Carreon (appointed as Justice of the Peace of Ronda on April 30, 1957).

The Carreons belongs to the lawyer clans of Cebu. There were two lawyers named Numeriano Carreon. Numeriano F. Carreon was admitted to the Bar on January 25, 1952 while Numeriano D. Carreon became a lawyer on December 7, 1929. Ernesto F. Carreon served as judge/Labor arbiter of the National Labor Relations Commission, legal counsel of ALU, and representative of the Labor Sector to the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-7. He came from Barili, Cebu, and became a lawyer on March 14, 1969.

Leonardo P. Carreon (who became a lawyer on April 26, 1989), became a professor of the College of Law of the University of San Jose-Recoletos and served as assistant Cebu City prosecutor and was appointed as judge of the Municipal Trial Court of Argao, Cebu, on September 9, 2002.

The Parish of Ronda was established by Diocesan decree on June 7, 1881, through Superior approval on July 24, 1871. It is under the patronage of the Most Immaculate Concepcion of the Virgin Mary. Its mother parish was Dumanjug.

The earlier mayors of Ronda were Aquilino Lucero, Luis Lumagsao, Ruperto Gimarino, Fermin Lucero, Santiago Lucero, Honorato Villalon, Marcial Gimena, Mariano Blanco, Lorenzo Villalon, and Fortunato Villalon.
