Copra droppings

THE EAR - The Freeman

STREET KIDS. Street children are sometimes seen in the vicinity of copra weighing stations near the waterfront. They pick up pieces of copra falling out of the sacks loaded on cargo trucks for weighing.

SALE. The kids sell the copra droppings they pick up from the road and sell them to copra exporters. Sometimes they play hantak using the copra as bets. And oftentimes they buy lotto tickets out of the little proceeds from the sale of the pieces of copra they had picked from the road. “Nanimpad sad tawon ang mga bata nga basin makadaug sa lotto,” our Ear informer said.
