POLITICAL UPDATE . . Gen. Trias, Cavite Mayor Luis “John-John” Ferrer is running for Congress to replace his brother Antonio Ferrer in Cavite’s 6th District. Cong. Onie Ferrer will run for Mayor of Gen. Trias.

Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente “Donkoy” Emano will be opposed by graduating Gov. Oscar S. Moreno.

El Salvador City Mayor Alfredo “Boy” Tan who is doing a good job running the newly created city is running for reelection and has no strong opponent.

Cong. Hermilando “Dodo” Mandanas is considering running for Governor against Gov. Vilma Santos. Provincial Board Member Boyet de Leon will run for Congress to replace Mandanas.

GOLD RESERVES . . The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reported that with the price of gold at $1600 per ounce, the value of its gold reserves has gone up by $1 billion. The BSP reports that our dollar reserves had reached $77 billion. It used to be only $24 billion. Why not sell $1 billion of gold reserves and use the money to reduce our external debt or to finance projects?

ARCILLAS BIG BASH . . Popular Sta. Rosa Mayor Arlene Arcillas celebrated her 43rd birthday with a well attended dinner at the Bellevue Hotel in Alabang.

Heading the 800 guests were Vice President Jejomar Binay, Sen. Dick Jordon, Cong. J.V. Ejercito, Cong. Homer Mercado, Cong. Dan Fernandez, Mayor Jun Jun Binay, Mayor Ramon Ilagan, Pagadian Mayor Sammy Co, Biñan Mayor Lenlen Alonte, exMayor Arthur Alonte, Nancy Binay, Ann Binay, Board Member Angelica Jones, Vice Mayor Arnel Gomez, the Tionko brothers, City Councilors, Barangay Chairmen, Rotarians, Arcillas Foundation scholars and department heads.

Vina Morales, Christian Bautista and the Company topbilled the entertainment program, Arnel Ignacio acted as emcee.

The video presentation highlighted Mayor Arcillas’ anti-plastic campaign, her social programs for disabled children, senior citizens and full scholarships for deserving College students.

ANOTHER SAN BEDA DEATH . . Mark Andrei Marcos, a San Beda first year Law student died from hazing injuries at De La Salle University Hospital in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Last February, San Beda Law freshman Marvin Reglos died also from hazing at Antipolo City.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Sen. Vicente Sotto III and Sen Pia Cayetano called for stricter enforcement measure of the anti hazing law.

“What is needed is law enforcement. There’s already law against it. What we need is to put them in jail, make them face before the court and punish them if they are guilty for murder or homicide,” Enrile said.

BINAY DEMOLITION PLAN . . Joey Salgado, spokesperson of Vice President Jojo Binay, assailed the creation of a Task Force headed by COA Comm. Heidi Mendoza to investigate projects of VP Binay implemented during his 23 years as Mayor.

Comm. Heidi Mendoza is known to be a close friend of DOTC Sec. Mar Roxas.

Being investigated is the 10-year-old Makati Friendship Suites. The Binay camp suspects the belated audit investigation is meant to demolish his chances for the Presidency in 2016. They have received reports that Binay will be out by December.

ANOTHER RIT KILLING . . ABC President Art Atulan of San Pedro, Laguna was shot dead by 2 men riding in tandem in San Pedro, Laguna.

Seaman Romulo Lagerin, 40 was shot dead at the MRT station in Balintawak by 2 robbers.

NCRPO Director Alan Purisima admitted that 15,257 crimes were recorded in the 2nd quarter in Metro Manila, up by 9.18 % over the 13,974 recorded in the 1st quarter.

GMA ATTENDS SESSION . . Cong. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo attended the House Sessions Tuesday. She stayed in the session hall for about 20 minutes, then she went to the lounge for another 30 minutes.

She said he is voting against the RH bill. The minority group of 33 is also expected to vote against.

Meanwhile, CBCP is confident it has 140 votes against the RH bill.

Supporters of the RH bill led by Rep. Janette Garin of Iloilo also say they have a majority supporting the RH bill.

Anyway, after 15 years, it’s time to vote on the issue.

TIDBITS . . . More rice smuggling. Another shipment of smuggled rice has been reported in the port of Davao.

Boxer Mark Anthony Barriga defeated Italian Manuel Cappai in the 1st round of the London Olympics.

Congratulations to Jean Catherine Napoles, daughter of Jimmy and Jenny Napoles who graduated from the Fashion Institute for Design and Management in Los Angeles with BS degree in Apparel Manufacturing, magna cum laude.
