Under PNoy: The armed groups are still here

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Philippine Star

As I stated earlier, the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of Pres. Benigno “PNoy” Aquino, III was a good one… because his hired speechwriters were good and the President delivered it well. The only problem with the President’s delivery is that once again he spoke in 99% Tagalog. Perhaps the day will come when the President would realize that not all Filipinos are Tagalog speakers. If he spoke in English, the whole nation would have understood his SONA, from Aparri to Jolo.

Anyway, let me immediately get into the nitty-gritty details, after all, there is a saying that goes, “The devil is in the details.” What we heard in the SONA is a paradigm shift in the fight against the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill because for the first time since he took office as President, PNoy always used the RH to sell his population control measure. Although he would never say that this is an abortion bill, we know for a fact that many contraceptive drugs are abortifacient.

So let’s analyze what the President meant when he said these words in Tagalog, “Sana nga po, ngayong paubos na ang backlog sa edukasyon, sikapin nating huwag uling magka-backlog dahil sa dami ng estudyante. Sa tingin ko po, Responsible Parenthood ang sagot dito.” To translate this statement in English, “Now that we have reduced our backlog in education, we must exert more effort in making sure that there would be no more backlogs in the future due to so many students. In my mind, Responsible Parenthood is the answer to this problem.” There are two issues that we need to examine closely here.

I honestly find it hard to believe that the Aquino Regime has already solved the backlog in our educational system. When school opened last month, the Education Department was still beset by the same old usual problems of lack of classrooms, schools or teachers and what we got from the DepEd were the usual excuses of “lack of funds.” So how can the President say that we have already resolved the problems in education? Is he living in a world of his own that he cannot see the problems that plague this country? If these problems were already behind us, why is the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) still fixing classrooms in many parts of Cebu?

In this paradigm shift, the President no longer mentioned the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill; rather he has now officially renamed the RH into a Planned Parenthood program. But more importantly, he is no longer hiding the reason for its being and that is to reduce our population of too many students. In short, Planned Parenthood is a population control measure, which we know is still copied from America where Planned Parenthood Centers are sites for abortion clinics.

In the next columns we shall be presenting to you what Planned Parenthood has been doing in the United States. I immediately fired a text message to Human Life International (HLI) Country Head, Dr. Rene Bullecer and this is his reply, “The International Planned Parenthood, the number one abortion provider in Canada, USA and other parts of the globe must be very happy with the pronouncement of the Philippine President. Also today, is the 44th anniversary of the Humane Vitae, the most controversial pro-Life encyclical written by the late Pope Paul VI. So the new battle lines have been drawn.

I immediately checked with the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) website and Fr. Melvin Castro, Executive Secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life of the CBCP issued a statement, “It is now clear that the proposed reproductive health (RH) bill or Aquino’s version of it called as Responsible Parenthood is not about health, but about birth control. We are deeply saddened and disappointed about it.” In the past, PNoy always insisted that the RH bill was a comprehensive health care for women and not a population control. What we heard him say in his SONA was Planned Parenthood is clearly a population control measure no longer disguised as a health concern for women. The lines are now clearly drawn between the Aquino Regime and the Catholic Church.

Lest he has already forgotten, PNoy ought to be told that the robust economy that the Philippines are enjoying today is due to the sacrifice of Overseas Foreign Workers (OFW). Reduce the population and we reduce the dynamo of the Philippine economy. It is as simple as that! So where do we go from here? What we heard so far is the voice of Fr. Melvin Castro, Executive Secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life of the CBCP. What I would now like to see or read is a pronouncement from the CBCP totally denouncing the President’s proposal.

Mind you, this was the most applauded part of his speech and I can only second guess that, the majority in Congress have already gotten their fair share of the lobby money given in support of the RH Bill. Unless the CBCP totally and completely denounces this in public… we can see Congress approve the Planned Parenthood proposal and even the Supreme Court (SC) will kowtow to the will of the President, even if this is totally unconstitutional!
