Try comics to get rid of your stress

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

I have heard so much about the so-called K+12 educational scheme but no one has explained clearly to me what this scheme is all about. I was assured though it’s got nothing to do with any of the fun runs scheduled in the city.

Seriously, I knew not much about the DepEd’s K+12 educational scheme until I read Sir Dodong Gullas’ in-depth article about the scheme where he discussed the mechanism of the program and its demerits.

***

I have to go along with Dr. Jose R. Gullas, not because he is my boss and I want to be in his good graces (actually I already am, hehe) but because he knows what he’s talking about. He being a veteran educator (executive vice president of UV).

Someone sent me a newsclipping about the ways to fight stress. Stress — that something many of us cannot explain but get hurt real bad by it.

***

There are many ways to fight stress. My way is simple and easy. But very effective. I read comics. Mainly the comic strips in the Philippine STAR, the flagship of the group of publications where TF belongs.

***

I always have fun reading Rene Aranda’s “Prof” and Dengcoy Miels’s “McBayan.” Rene makes fun of the crocodiles or, yes, corrupt officials in the government, while Dengcoy makes me laugh with his drawings of impossible things that are possible only in his pen and paper.

Sundays, Philstar comes with an eight-page all-comics supplement in color. This is where I bump into Beetle Bailey, Dennis the Menace and Hagar the Horrible, my foreign favorites. Beetle is a soldier who is always pushed around (like Sad Sack of World War II) but always comes back alive and kicking.

Ronnie Magsanoc, one of my favorite PBA stars, no longer plays on the hardcourt. He now covers it — the hardcourt.

***

Ronnie has effected a career change. He is now sports commentator, covering not only basketball but also football, volleyball, tennis, badminton, etc. with competence. I am impressed by his mastery of the technical terminologies of the different sports he is covering.

Noy Temyong says: “Why is it that everytime a Pinoy or Pinay won in a contest, including beauty and sports contests, he/she would say during an interview: “I never expected to win or I thought I would not win.” They didn’t join the contest to lose, did they?
