Statement - Proponents must prove that "Sugbuak" will benefit the Cebuanos
April 24, 2007 | 12:00am
I am writing in relation to the article "Escudero won''t sign pact with One Cebu", which appeared in your April 19, 2007 issue and written by your reporter Mr. Greg Rubio.
I wish to point out the following:
1. I did not say I would not sign the covenant as alleged in the article.
2. I was misquoted and clearly taken out of context with respect to the quotation which read, "even if the Cebuanos did not support (me) in the May 14 elections."
What I said was: Whether or not I am given the opportunity to sign the covenant, my position is that the proponents must prove that "Sugbuak" will benefit the Cebuanos and that this is really what the Cebuanos want. Absent such a showing, I will not support such a move.
I do hope that you will clarify this matter in your newspaper, thank you for your attention and consideration.
