PNP: Crimes drop by 31% in June

MANILA, Philippines — Last month’s crime volume went down by 31 percent, which the Philippine National Police (PNP) attributed to law enforcement efforts in collaboration with local government units and the public.

Data from the PNP showed that there were 2,098 focus crimes from June 1 to June 30. The figure is lower by more than 31 percent compared to the 3,073 crimes recorded during the same period last year.

The focus crimes, which the PNP is monitoring in gauging the peace and order situation, are murder, homicide, rape, physical injury, car theft, robbery, theft and motorcycle theft.

Car theft posted the biggest drop of nearly 67 percent, from 27 to nine cases, followed by rape, which went down by 57 percent from 697 to 298.

Physical injury cases went down from 406 to 243.

Homicide cases also dropped from 84 to 61, motorcycle theft from 189 to 140, robbery from 310 to 238, theft from 1,067 to 890 and murder from 293 to 259.

Nartatez said the positive crime trend reflects the actions of police units and cooperation with other sectors.
