MANILA, Philippines — As the country reels from recent calamities, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development ordered its shelter agencies to provide a moratorium on the payment of housing amortization, the DHSUD announced.
Among the agencies directed by DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling to “immediately” impose a moratorium on housing amortization were the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund, National Housing Authority, Social Housing Finance Corporation and National Home Mortgage Finance Corp.
“In line with the declaration of President Marcos we enjoin our attached agencies to impose a temporary moratorium on housing amortization for their member-beneficiaries,” Aliling said in Filipino.
On Thursday, Marcos declared a “state of national calamity” following the massive devastation left by Typhoon Tino in the Visayas and Mindanao, and in anticipation of another strong typhoon.
The Visayas region was also hit by strong earthquakes last month.
Aside from the moratorium, the DHSUD said it would continue to relocate affected families in Cebu to the Bayanihan Village in San Remigio town.
The DHSUD said its regional shelter clusters are on standby and ready to provide immediate assistance to those who may be affected by Typhoon Uwan.
