MANILA, Philippines — Special non-working holidays have been declared in Minalin, Pampanga and Tupi, South Cotabato in observance of the towns’ founding anniversaries and a local festival.

Aug. 27 will be a special non-working day in Minalin as provided under Proclamation 999 to give residents an opportunity to celebrate the town’s 411th Foundation Day.

Minalin is known as the “Egg Basket of Central Luzon” because of its large-scale egg and chicken industry.

Meanwhile, Sept. 11 will be a special non-working day in the municipality of Tupi as provided under Proclamation 1000.

The holiday will allow the people of Tupi to participate and enjoy the celebration of the town’s 72nd founding anniversary and the 16th Agten Tufi Festival.

The festival highlights the town’s agricultural abundance and the Blaan culture. Tupi is considered as the fruit, vegetable and flower basket of South Cotabato.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamations 999 and 1000 on Aug. 14 and 18, respectively.
