MANILA, Philippines — Two suspected members of the Chinese navy were arrested on Friday for possessing high-end loose firearms at their rented place in Makati.

Police seized from the suspects a .45-caliber handgun, a .357-caliber revolver, a .22-caliber sniper rifle, 12 gauge shotgun and bullets at their home along Antipolo Street in Barangay Valenzuela.

Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, National Capital Region Police Office director, said intelligence operatives raided the house based on a search warrant issued by a Makati Regional Trial Court.

Aberin said charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, were filed against Zhuang Zhuang Li, 28, and Zhen Chen, 31.

Col. Reycon Garduque, Makati police officer-in-charge, said foreigners are not allowed to possess firearms in the country.

“The suspects have been (traveling) to and from the Philippines using their working visa, which is due to expire,” Garduque said.

He added that the Southern Police District would investigate whether the suspects are members of the People’s Liberation Army Navy.
