MANILA, Philippines — Police have identified the two alleged robbers who shot an intelligence operative of the Highway Patrol Group in Makati.

HPG spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang said authorities are tracking down the suspects whose identities were withheld.

The motorcycle-riding suspects fired at the HPG operative at the corner of Edison and Paradise streets in Barangay San Isidro on Friday.

The victim, with the rank of lieutenant, was with his child when the incident took place.

A witness, who was also wounded in the attack, said the backrider alighted from the motorcycle and opened fire at the victim.

The HPG officer suffered nine gunshots to the body. He is in stable condition in an undisclosed hospital.

His child was unharmed, but suffered emotional trauma.

Probers retrieved 14 bullet casings from a 9mm pistol at the scene.

Malang said investigators are looking into two possible motives, one of which is robbery, since the suspects took the victim’s necklace, cell phone and service firearm.

But police said the attack could also be work-related as the victim was involved in case operational plans of the HPG.

Malang said the victim was supposed to meet with a confidential agent when he was ambushed.
