MANILA, Philippines — Cases of vehicle theft during the first half of 2025 dropped by at least five percent, the Highway Patrol Group reported yesterday.
Data from the HPG showed there were 1,104 theft cases from Jan. 1 to June 30. The figure is lower compared to the 1,164 cases recorded during the same period in 2024, for a decrease of 5.15 percent.
Lt. Nadame Malang, spokesman for the HPG, said there were 140 car theft cases in 2025, which is lower by 13.58 percent from 162 incidents in 2024.
Motorcycle theft cases decreased by 3.79 percent from 1,002 to 964 cases.
Malang attributed the decrease in vehicle thefts to the intensified law enforcement operations following the directive of Philippine National Police chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III to put more PNP personnel on the streets and conduct more checkpoints.
