MANILA, Philippines — As Makati Mayor Abby Binay steps down from office on Monday, the city government touted that it has regularized nearly 1,700 employees since 2017.
The financial capital of the Philippines has granted permanent status to 1,695 casual employees and promoted 914 regular workers during Binay’s nine-year term.
In addition, 698 job order personnel were converted to casual status, while 704 casual workers received promotions.
Under Binay’s tenure, Makati has distributed over P83.5 million in cash incentives to loyal employees.
On June 18, Binay presided for the last time over the annual ceremony honoring workers employed for 30 to 45 years.
The ceremony, first held in 2016, saw Makati awarding cash gifts ranging from P25,000 to P40,000, a customized Seiko wristwatch and a glass plaque to loyalty awardees, outstanding employees and 82 retirees.
“Competent and motivated workers are the backbone of efficient and quality public service,” Binay said in a statement on Saturday.
“By providing security of tenure and recognizing their valuable role in the city government organization, our employees are inspired to excel and serve our constituents better.”
Binay will be succeeded by her sister, Nancy, at noon on Monday.
