SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — Power supply was stable and reliable during the conduct of the midterm elections yesterday, according to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.

The NGCP said it suspended non-critical maintenance and repair activities from May 5 to 16 in compliance with the Commission on Elections’ Resolution 10999 and 11055.

“Maintenance works and construction activities in our substations and within 300 meters of energized power lines were suspended. All transition lines were cleared of vegetation and obstruction as of April 30,” Arth Sinobago, NGCP government relations and regional affairs specialist, said.

Sinobago said the grid operator completed several preparatory projects across its service areas to ensure reliable power delivery during the election period.

He said the company upgraded 45 structures along the Mexico-Pao segment of the Mexico-Calumpit 69 kiloVolt (kV) line from March 20 to April 12 in Central Luzon.

The NGCP said it replaced 38 deteriorated wood poles along the Cabanatuan-San Luis 69 kV line from April 4 to 23 as well as several rusting insulators on 42 structures located along the Poblacion Sur-Kaingin line segment.

To enhance election-related power security, the NGCP said it activated its Overall Command Center from May 11 to 14 to ensure real-time monitoring of transmission operations.

Linemen, engineers, pilots, technicians, and maintenance and testing personnel were deployed in substations to respond to emergencies.
