MANILA, Philippines — The government will intensify the campaign against illegal drugs with the Revitalized Police Program, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos announced yesterday.
The Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will focus their anti-drug campaign on the barangay level, according to Abalos.
“The point is that the PDEA, the police, the NBI – they’re all doing their job as far as drugs is concerned. We call it the Revitalized Police Program. The campaign will focus on the barangays – more comprehensive and more detailed,” he said.
Abalos cited the case of Muntinlupa City where he ordered the PNP to focus on a particular area where rampant illegal drug trade has been reported.
“Police even rented a house in the area and befriended the neighborhood. After a few months, the number of crimes went down. The drug pushers were wiped out. This is what we are trying to do in the country right now,” Abalos noted.
He said 28,000 barangays have been declared cleared of drugs.
