Strong quakes jolt Surigao Sur
MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes struck Surigao del Sur yesterday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said both quakes were aftershocks of the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that hit the province last December.
The first quake had a magnitude of 5.3. The epicenter was recorded 83 kilometers south of Cagwait town at 8:10 a.m.
The second quake was a magnitude 5.4 and recorded 77 kilometers south of Cagwait.
Phivolcs said the temblor was felt at Intensity 5, which is classified as strong, in Hinatuan.
Both quakes were felt at Intensity 4 or moderately strong in Bislig.
Phivolcs has recorded nearly 2,000 aftershocks of the magnitude 6.8 quake.
