DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A drug suspect was killed in an alleged encounter following a sting in Toril, Davao City over the weekend.

Rubin Fernandez, alias Biolo, 45, allegedly drew his gun after sensing that he was dealing with police undercover agents in Barangay Lower Lubugan shortly before midnight on Friday.

Cpl. Regie Abellar said Fernandez shot him, but missed, triggering a shootout that resulted in the suspect’s death.

Police said they recovered a plastic sachet said to contain shabu and a loaded revolver from the suspect.

Meanwhile, in Negros Occidental, shabu with an estimated street value of P1.4 million was recovered during a sting in Bacolod City at dawn yesterday.

The suspect, identified only as Dario, 32, was arrested and detained at the city police detention cell.

Probers said Dario was a major drug supplier in the city and nearby areas.

Charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 would be filed against the suspect, police said.
