MANILA, Philippines — The traslacion or the procession of the Black Nazarene could make a comeback after a three-year hiatus.

Suspended in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic, the Quiapo Church management announced on social media that traslacion may return on Jan. 9, 2024.

A walkthrough has been scheduled at around 5 a.m. on Dec. 16 at the Quirino Grandstand, to be attended by Quiapo Church officials and other stakeholders.

The event is reportedly in preparation for the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene next month.

Traslacion is the transfer of the wooden image of Jesus from the Quirino Grandstand back to the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo.

The religious activity is attended by hundreds of thousands of Catholic devotees.
