MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s license of a sport utility vehicle driver over a road rage incident in Taguig City that went viral on social media.
The LTO did not identify the driver, who stopped in the middle of the road to confront a truck driver for allegedly swerving onto his lane on Nov. 24.
The registration of the SUV and the driver’s license were both preventively suspended pending ongoing investigation.
The motorist was recorded on video shouting at the truck driver and demanding for his driver’s license while his own vehicle was stopped along the thoroughfare.
“I personally watched the video and saw the violations, including reckless driving, obstruction of traffic and improper person to operate a motor vehicle,” LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said.
The driver will be made to explain why he should not be penalized for violating Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
The Philippine National Police said complaints for threat and usurpation of authority could be filed against the SUV driver.
Police have obtained the vehicle’s registered owner with the Land Transportation Office. Based on the LTO database, the owner is not a police officer. – Emmanuel Tupas
