MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is targeting the release of P6,000 fuel subsidy to jeepney and tricycle operators by next month, LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz said yesterday.
The one-time fuel assistance will be given to operators nationwide, but those who have “modernized jeepneys will get the subsidy first,” he said.
Guadiz said the subsidy will probably be released in late August.
The LTFRB has yet to release the number of beneficiaries who will be given the fuel assistance for this year.
Secretary Jaime Bautista said that the Department of Transportation is set to issue guidelines for the LTFRB on the release of the fuel subsidy.
He said that the government is opting for a “one-time big-time” payout of the assistance to transport workers instead of giving it in tranches.
The Marcos administration has allotted a total of P4 billion for fuel assistance for both transport stakeholders and farmers.
In March, the Department of Budget and Management said that P3 billion was allotted for fuel vouchers to qualified public utility vehicle operators.
This is higher than the P2.5 billion allotted by the Duterte administration that covered an estimated 300,000 beneficiaries in 2022.
