LINGAYEN, Philippines — A man drowned in a river in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan on Saturday.
Elmer Quitoles and his cousins were fishing in the Sinucalan River in Barangay Minien West when heavy rain fell at around 2 p.m.
The group decided to take shelter, but Quitoles reportedly stayed behind and went to a deeper portion of the river.
The victim was swept away by the current, prompting his companion to jump into the water to save him.
Quitoles was declared dead on arrival at the Mapandan Community Hospital.
