Generator explodes, causes drugstore fire

MANILA, Philippines — A generator used during a power outage exploded and caused a fire that razed a drugstore in Parañaque City yesterday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection’s National Capital Region office said the fire at the Mercury drugstore on Ninoy Aquino Avenue started at around 8:33 a.m. and reached third alarm.

District 1 Rep. Edwin Olivarez, who rushed to the scene, said the fire broke out when the generator the employees used during a power outage exploded.

The flames spread to an adjacent computer shop before it was controlled at around 10:25 a.m. There were no casualties.

Arson probers have yet to determine the estimated cost of property damage caused by the blaze.
