MANILA, Philippines — The heat index in Pasay City reached 43 degrees Celsius on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The state weather bureau said the heat index was recorded in Pasay at 1 p.m.
PAGASA said the highest heat index on Sunday was also recorded in Catarman, Northern Samar and Dagupan City, with 44 degrees Celsius; Clark Airport in Pampanga and Masbate City, with 43 degrees Celsius.
The heat index in Quezon City reached 41 degrees Celsius.
PAGASA said the highest heat index so far this year was recorded on April 16 in Guiuan, Eastern Samar with 49 degrees Celsius; Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, 48 degrees Celsius; Legazpi City, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, and Guiuan, 47 degrees Celsius.
PAGASA Impact Assessment and Applications Section of the Climatology and Agrometeorology division chief Marcelino Villafuerte II has warned the public that a higher heat index is expected this month amid the dry season.
Villafuerte said the highest heat index of 55 degrees Celsius was recorded in Dagupan City on May 1, 2022.
The weather bureau advised the public to avoid exposure when the heat index ranges from 42 to 52 degrees Celsius to prevent heat stroke.
