San Miguel cop chief slay suspect identified

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — Probers have identified the killers of Lt. Col. Marlon Serna, the police chief of San Miguel, Bulacan as he and his men responded to a robbery incident on Saturday night.

“We have the identity of the suspects and our personnel are working double time to bring justice to where it should be,” Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said during his visit to the wake of Serna in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija on Wednesday.

“Serna was fulfilling his duty as a law enforcer when confronted with such violent action. His loyalty to the commitment to serve and protect the nation will be remembered,” Azurin said.

Azurin and Central Luzon police chief Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr. posthumously awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan to Serna and handed over financial assistance to his wife.

Maj. Norheda Usman, information officer of the Bulacan police, said a task group created to probe the killing is conducting pursuit operations for a criminal group suspected to be involved in the incident.
