Parañaque students get monthly allowance

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Parañaque has started distributing P500 monthly allowance for students from kindergarten to senior high school students in public schools, Mayor Eric Olivarez announced yesterday.

According to Olivarez, the months covered by the check he signed is from September to December 2022,amounting to P2,000 each or an equavlent equivalent to P500 monthly to at leastP 110,000 students.

Around P600 million had been allocated by the local government for this educational assistance program, he said.

The “special allowance” will be a big help for the students’ daily pocket money, transport fares and for expenses at school.

He said elementary and high school students will receive their P500 monthly financial assistance this month through their respective ATM accounts for schoolyear 2022-23.

Meanwhile, Olivarez will lead today the distribution of College Educational Financial Assistance Program or CEFAP to 3,472 college students for the first semester of schoolyear 2022-2023 initiated by the Special Services Office.

The mayor said that 1,412 students from the city’s first district and 2,060 students from the second district the financial assistance today.

He said 1,803 students with a general grade average of 81.86 percent will receive P3,500 while 1,669 students with grades of 87 percent and above will receive P5,000.

Olivarez – who manages the family-owned Olivarez College in Parañaque and Tagaytay, Cavite – added that his administration will “continue to expand and find other ways to continue to meet the needs of the students throughout the city.”
